Frontiers of Democracy - Embedding Democratic Values in Moldova and Ukraine.

Duration:

September, 2015 to November, 2016

Funding:

International Visegrad Fund

Moldova and Ukraine, countries of the European Union's Eastern Partnership program, are undergoing complex processes of democratic transformation, but with weak embeddedness of democratic values and principles drawbacks can occur. It is embeddedness that helps to overcome the challenges of transformation and pushes countries beyond mere frontiers of democracy towards becoming strongly committed democratic communities. The goal of this project is to facilitate embedding democratic values in the societal ethos, and thus to contribute to future successful consolidation in Moldova and Ukraine.

On June 28, 2016, the Foreign Policy Association organized an expert workshop in a Chatham house rules format in order to discuss the countries communication system applied during the implementation of the Association Agenda between the EU and Moldova.

The existence of a clear cutting document not only will favour the work of the governmental institutions and make the communication between central government and local easier but will also give development partners possibility to identify the countries needs and support Moldova to fulfil its engagements taken on the path to modernizing the country.

The participants also touched upon the issue of cooperation between the Government and the civil society pointing out the inefficiency of the current mechanisms due to several reasons among which: political influences, institutional deficiencies, lack of interest to technical topics, etc.

  3. Analiza mecanismelor existente de comunicare (ținând cont de actorii de bază: UE, Autoritățile Republicii Moldova, Societate civilă),
  4. Recomandări privind elaborarea unei strategii de comunicare eficiente privind vectorul european și implementarea AA.

Evenimentul este preconizat pentru Marți, 28 iunie, orele 10.00 - 12.00 in incinta Centrului NATO, strada Str. Mitropolitul Bănulescu Bodoni 2A.

Press release

Chisinau, 24.06.2016

Communicating the European vector in a period of political/financial crises and geopolitical interest in Moldova

The Foreign Policy Association has the pleasure to invite you to an experts workshop meant to discuss about the communication strategy during the implementation of the Association Agenda between the EU and Moldova.

Although it was largely acknowledged the lack of a clear communication strategy regarding Moldova’s European development pattern as well as the role of EU in modernizing the country no concrete steps were undertaken in order to overcome the challenges.

Thus, during the event we would like to raise the following issues:

  1. Identify the main institutional challenges and opportunities in promoting the European vector and the reforms foresee in the AA,
  2. Spot the challenges in the communication process (domestic and foreign factors, regional security crises, the EU institutional developments),
  3. Analyze the existing mechanism of communication (taking into account the main stakeholders the EU, Moldovan authorities and civil society),
  4. Provide recommendation.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 28 June, 2016 in the premises of the NATO Center situated on 2A Banulescu Bodoni Street.
